Health equity means that we All have an equal understanding of how we live and care for each other... and health because of each other. For LGBT Americans-Two-Spirit, Intersex, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender & Transsexual, Asexual, Queer, and Allied (Rainbow) persons, the growing recognition of and movement for our families leaves U.S. with more healing to do because even if all eligible couples marry, lagging epidemiological incidence of illness and disease renders Rainbow folks unaccounted for in standard health reporting. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 and 2003 regulations allow Rainbow Americans to privacy in health care, but not to the positive right to identify ourselves as health care markets innovate for equity in race, ethnicity, and religion.
