Bitcoin has been around since 2009, and it is not going away any time soon. The ultimate roadblock for Bitcoin in attaining widespread acceptance is not a natural one though, it is the government's lack of acceptance of Bitcoin for paying your taxes. There is no legitimate reason for not letting citizens pay with Bitcoin, and using Bitcoin could dramatically decrease the costs that both individuals, as well as the government incur in tax prep and handling. Consumer choice in how individuals are allowed to legitimately pay their taxes is a moral issue, and we must allow individuals the right to pay their taxes using this established digital currency (both state and federal, but especially federal since states could later decide on a state-by-state basis).
