Enable single, independent students by lowering the age full-time students can be considered dependents from 24 to 21.

Created by A.B. on January 18, 2013

Single, independent students are currently required to be dependents under their parents taxes until they are 24 years of age.

At 21 years old, most students are graduating, starting their own careers, and weaning off of their parents support. After 21, the majority of us are on our own and supporting ourselves independently, but the IRS, FAFSA, and government will not recognize that. This leaves the majority of the nations 21 to 24 year old population with no options to pursue further education. Their only option is to try to find work in a barren, jobless economy until they are 24.

Sign this petition to reduce the age which single, independent students are considered dependents from 24 to 21.
