There is strong evidence that the warming of the Earth over the last half-century has been caused largely by human activity, such as the burning of fossil fuels and changes in land use, including agriculture and deforestation.
The risks associated with climate change and abuse of the environment are substantial. We have already suffered some of its effects in costly droughts and unprecedented weather events like Hurricane Sandy.
We ask that the President make the environment a top-5 priority in his second term, and commit to ambitious and effective environmental policy designed to reverse the global trend of climate change--even where, in some instances, doing so might prove unpopular to a segment of the population or difficult.
