Establishing a cap and trade program would be a very beneficial action for our economy. If the Waxman - Markey Cap and Trade bill (the American Clean Energy and Security Act) were to be enacted and revenues resulting from the act were invested in a Clean Energy Jobs Program, up to 600,000 well paying jobs could be created, reducing the unemployment rate by 0.4%. Cap and Trade would also present additional savings for the economy, by reducing the long term level of environmentally harmful carbon emissions, and encouraging investment in the development of new clean energy technologies.
