Expenditures for a college student in the US for textbooks for 2013 are expected to be an average of $1190 for an academic year. Students pay as much as $300 for a single text book, with many books not available for under $100. The increasing cost of textbooks is becoming an obstacle for students in obtaining higher education certificates and degrees at a time when more people are encouraged to pursue higher education, and when opportunity for individuals and families depends on it. Exhorbitant college text book costs are hurting lower and middle income families and limiting their access to higher education. Investigate and determine if college book publishing companies/sellers are gouging, and enact consumer protection measures if that is determined to be the case.
