enact emergency legislation to protect Americans from bill collector harassment calls.

Created by H.A. on October 07, 2011

The U.S. is in a financial crisis and millions of Americans are experiencing harassing phone calls for failure to pay their bills, from credit cards to home mortgages. The calling is often relentless, creating a great deal of emotional stress, and in cases where a home may be repossessed, the stress becomes anguish. Documentaries such as "Maxed Out" have chronicled the lives of some who committed suicide because they could not cope with the threats made by bill collectors.

It is time for EMERGENCY LEGISLATION to be enacted to protect Americans from disrespectful practices by the debt industry, to include:

*Bill collectors are allowed to make ONLY ONE (1) call daily to a consumer.
*Collectors may relay information about the status of accounts, but no threats of any kind will be tolerated.
