More than one-third of US workers experience bullying in the place that they earn their living. Current law does not prohibit bullying behaviors unless they constitute discrimination or harassment. According to the 2010 National Health Interview Survey Occupational Health Supplement (NHIS-OHS), the national prevalence rate for workers reporting having been threatened, bullied, or harassed by anyone on the job was 8% - a number that should not exist at all.
I urge President Obama to work with the writers and supporters of the Healthy Workplace Bill to take the initiative nationwide, instead of relying on a state-by-state measure that may (or may not) be enforced. At the federal level, it will force employers to stop looking the other way and create a better work environment for all.
