Whereas, we have witnessed the increasing militarization of domestic police forces, with billions of dollars worth of military grade weapons and vehicles being transferred to local police departments, and
Whereas, the increasing militarization of local police forces has led to a perception that police no longer protect and serve the American people, and
Whereas, the increasing militarization of local police forces in response to protests borders on, if it is not an outright violation of, the right to assembly, and
Whereas, President Obama has stated on Oct. 16, 2012, "weapons that were designed for soldiers in theaters of war don't belong on our streets,"
We the people petition the Obama administration to act to ban the use of military grade weapons and vehicles by domestic police forces.
