A Legislator in the House or Senate is tasked, at the most basic level, with maintaining the operational integrity of the United States Government. A government shutdown is a failure to perform that duty by ALL members of the House or Senate. Differences in opinion are what make this country great, but the recent government shutdown has served to highlight the fact that the current Legislators have lost sight of their most basic task, maintaining the United States Government. I believe that someone who is unable to perform the most basic task required of their position should not be allowed to continue in their position. Nor should they continue to receive a salary as all of their predecessors, who were successful in performing their assigned duties, have.
