The recent government shutdown could have resulted in catastrophic damage to the United States economy, and was certainly expensive; costing us 24 billion dollars over the course of 16 days. Allowing the government to be shutdown is grossly irresponsible, and only should ever be considered in the most dire of circumstances.
To ensure that entering into a shutdown in the future is avoided at all costs, I call upon the President of the United States to start the process of enacting a bill to combat this. In the future, if the government would be shutdown, all sitting members of congress who vote for the shutdown will immediately have their seats come up for reelection.
This will ensure that a shutdown is not entered into lightly ever again.
