Oregon law (ORS 419B.005) defines child abuse as physical or mental injury, neglect, sexual abuse, and threat of harm. Threat of harm is expanded upon and is classified as “significant or acute injury to a child’s physical, sexual, psychological, or mental development and/or functioning,”
Oregon's Department of Human Services analyzed over 170 studies on screen-viewing and found that any child viewing any amount of television will sustain severe mental injury and will likely suffer from attention disorders among many other physiological injuries such as increased violence, early exposure to sexual activity and drug use.
In order to safeguard our children, we must enact a law stating that any child subjected to TV is classified as child abuse and strongly enforce the aforementioned law.
