While the idea of creating a "wall" around America's borders is a controversial topic, the one thing we can all agree on is that it is going to require a staff that the Border Control could not possibly supply without massive increases to their budget.
Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Prisons routinely runs out of room in their prisons, sending excess inmates to privately-owned prisons, another hot-button topic.
We say, "let's kill two birds with one stone."
We propose that felons facing prison sentences should be offered a choice to either face the standard punishment befitting their crime or commute their sentences by serving as a watcher on the Wall. Being a brother of the Watch can build social skills and work ethic, and allow for convicted criminals to repay their debt to society.
