On December 28, 2014, transgender 17-year-old Ohioan Leelah (born Josh) Alcorn committed suicide as a result of the psychological degradation caused by emotional abuse from her family and her "treatment" through conversion therapy (CT).
CT for LGBTQ+ individuals has been condemned by various authorities on psychological/mental health.
The American Psychological Association notes there's "insufficient evidence to support [...] interventions to change sexual orientation". The World Health Organization claims CT's a "serious threat to the health [...] of affected people". And the American Medical Association "opposes the use of 'reparative' or 'conversion' therapy". A quick Google search can provide many more criticisms.
Please grant Leelah's final wish by enacting appropriate legislation.
