U.S. prisons violate international standards every day through the inhumane and ineffective practice of solitary confinement.
Solitary confinement increases instability and violence and is considered by international law to be torture. Yet in America, solitary confinement is not regulated by anyone expect prison officials. NO JUDGE, NO JURY. Thereby making solitary confinement arguably the most devastating and unjust form of punishment that we enact in this country.
We the people, petition the Obama administration to recognize that solitary confinement is a clear violation of the 8th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States and to enact legislation banning the practice in all 50 states and all U.S. territories.
