enact legislation to force companies to allow the recording of conversations when the company is already recording

Created by S.J. on February 18, 2013

You probably know the phrase "Call is recorded for quality assurance". Yet, if you have ever tried to record a call for your own records, you've also inevitably come across another phrase, "I can't give you permission to record, this call will have to end".

Let's enact legislation that forces the companies to allow us to record, if they are already recording.

Companies have made it known that their 'recordings' are only for their use, and any time consumers request a tape be reviewed, it has generally been recorded over.

Many consumers have built-in recording capabilities on their smartphones. Let's put these recordings in their control; they likely will be better motivated to retain them, to protect themselves against call center errors, fraud, or outright unethical behavior
