Enact legislation that holds elected officials criminally responsible for not resolving financial crises by a deadline.

Created by J.P. on December 16, 2012

This new legislation would hold elected officials responsible for not actively resolving impending fiscal crises in a timely fashion. Case in point: the imminent "fiscal cliff." Although there is an established deadline, partisan lawmakers are posturing and using delay tactics while the deadline looms. Meanwhile, companies are laying off workers in preparation for the worst. In essence, the Executive & Legislative inaction is costing citizens their jobs. Yet there is no penalty for allowing this to happen via stalling tactics, et. al. This petition proposes financial penalties levied against politicians' salaries paid out to affected parties equal to finances lost. Other penalties may include impeachment, charges of conspiracy and/or obstruction, and removal of pension benefits.
