`Middle income and Low income employees are seeing their employers cut their hours to under 30, so that they can save money and avoid the new Affordable Health Care Laws for their employees. This was a recent move by the company I work for, and several other companies in the United States including Darden Inc., Regal Cinemas, The City of Long Beach California, Dave and Busters, McDonald's, Taco Bell and several other large companies that can clearly afford to provide insurance.
This is cutting the average employee's pay by approximately 25%. This is happening in jobs that are already considered low paying jobs, and jobs mainly filled with working parents and students. Legislation needs to take place to raise the full-time status from 30hrs back to 40hrs.
