Bullying is a huge problem in our schools nationwide. Suicide is rampant among teens who are bullied. Though efforts have been made with anti-bullying initiatives, bullying needs to be treated as what it really is... a crime! If I hit, harass, or intimidate another adult I would be charged. It should be no different for bullies! Where the parents fail, the system should step in. I propose that any student who verbally (including social media) or physically harasses, intimidates or assaults another student should be charged, fined, and (if necessary) imprisoned through juvenile courts just as adults are; up to and including HATE CRIMES! Asking nicely doesn't seem to work. Only through consequences of their actions will these children learn. It's time for some REAL action to be taken!
