Modern elections have effectively turned the United States into a plutocracy-he who has the most money wins the race. Millionaire candidates pour absurd amounts of money into their campaigns, such that it skewers voters perceptions and locks other candidates in obscurity.
For the sake of American democracy, this must not be allowed to continue. In this petition, we the people request that a maximum limit to campaign expenditures be established. Any candidate worth voting for should be able to earn our votes without outspending his or her opponent.
A reasonable maximum should be one that all candidates can afford.
The founders of this country did not say 'the richest men will rule.' Protect democracy. Set campaign spending maximum limits throughout the country.
