In order to end the dependance of the United States on non-renewable and fossil fuels we must enact a national renewable energy standard. We, the undersigned, recognize that the United States must enact an ambitious policy to drastically reduce our consumption of fossil fuels. Many states have already put this type of policy into action. It is time to make it a nationwide policy. The renewable energy standard should require every state to receive at least 20% of its electrical power from renewable sources such as solar, wind, geothermal, and tidal by 2025. Sources that should not be included are any type of coal, natural gas, petroleum product, or nuclear power. This will spur local green jobs, a reduction on imported sources of fuel, and reduce carbon emissions.
