Enact a nationwide ban on hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") as a method for extracting natural gas.

Created by A.J. on December 19, 2012

Hydraulic fracturing, aka "fracking," is a very invasive method of extracting natural gas found throughout shale formations deep within the Earth's crust. Hydraulic fracturing requires injecting a cocktail of toxic chemicals into the shale formation under high pressure to release natural gas deposits and bring them to the surface. After this process, thousands of gallons of this toxic sludge are then disposed of back into the spent well. This process has been to blame for contaminating nearby water sources, leaking wells that still emit gas and pose a threat of explosion, as well as causing moderate earthquakes in the vicinity of nearby wells. Please ban hydraulic fracturing as a method of natural gas extraction in the United States. This kind of "clean" energy is far too costly in the end
