Since 9/11, it is estimated that over 5,000 people have been killed in reported incidents of police brutality (USDOJ). These statistics are problematic at best and tyrannical at worst. It is the duty of law enforcement to uphold the law while protecting EVERY American. With this treatment disproportionately reserved for people of color, women, and those with economic and physical disadvantage, it is past time we enact strong reforms that restore our eroding faith in American law enforcement.
We ask the Obama Administration to enact police reform nationwide which includes sensitivity training and counseling, mandatory suspension for officers under investigation, mandatory sentences for convicted officers, and body cameras while on duty to minimize hearsay and uphold accountability.
