The current climate of political deadlock in Congress could be mitigated by ensuring that the American people are properly represented in the House of Representatives. Political parties have managed to make it very difficult for independent candidates and third parties to get on the ballot. Furthermore, the increasing polarization of the two main parties have effectively ostracized the nearly one-third of Americans who consider themselves "Independents". Proportional Representation would allow for the broader interests of Americans to find a voice in Congress and allow for greater agreement on issues instead of representatives being forced to take a political stance to gain party favor and enhance their chances for reelection.
