Enact a Revenue-Neutral Carbon Tax to Decrease Carbon Emissions and Encourage Economic Growth

Created by C.K. on December 18, 2012

By enacting a $20 per ton tax on carbon emissions (specifically on our 10 largest polluters) that rises by 5.6% every year, we will raise $1.2 trillion over the next ten years. This number is enough to eliminate the payroll tax without decreasing revenue, allowing our small businesses to flourish and give them the needed certainty to hire more workers without needing to pay extra taxes. And our deficit would not go up in the process. In fighting climate change, we will also bring about a recovery and not add to our record-high debt.
