Enact a tax on some of the largest lending institutions in order to fund a national financial education program.

Created by M.S. on August 08, 2014

The purpose of this petition is to suggest that a tax be levied on publicly traded lending institutions who have net interest income larger than $100 million in order to fund a personal finance education program. Not only should this program be integrated into the public education system prior to post-secondary schooling, it should also be offered at the community level for adults, that is, persons over the age of 18 who earn less than $40,000 (adjusted for inflation) annually (individually) and/or those who have a negative net worth. This program should educate consumers in the areas of savings, debt (particularly credit card or other high interest), strategies for improving their credit score, home buying, retirement planning, and investing.

Thank you for your consideration.
