In this era of falling train ridership it would seem that it would benefit Amtrak to change it's policy on pets on-board. Airlines allow small pets in carriers and it seems to reason that Trains should as well. Most commuter lines allow pets to little disadvantage. This move would increase ridership in the most popular corridors (East-Coast) where many riders in the cities like New York do not have cars, or prefer to travel by train to avoid traffic hassles. This seems to reason that a change in this policy would only increase ridership and revenue. Not to mention benefit the thousands of pet owners that enjoy train travel. If we are going to make an effort in this country to save fuel efficiency we need to start here. Amtrak, please allow pets in pet carriers on-board.
