With the recent breach of security of personal information from Target, several news agencies have reported that the magnetic strips on the back of credit and debit cards make it extremely easy for thieves to obtain personal and confidential information. Several financial institutions abroad have switched to an embedded computer chip that requires a pin number before it can be used. This technology has made it difficult for theft, but American financial institutions do not want to implement this due to high production costs.
The American people pay a high cost with bank fees and identity theft, and paid a lot with the bailout of these institutions. We ask that you encourage the financial institutions to make this change in order to protect their consumers from future breaches in security.
