Encourage the building of a Travelling Wave Reactor to address the problem of nuclear waste in the city of Detroit.

High-level nuclear waste is created during the fission process at power stations. The Fermi 2 nuclear reactor located in Frenchtown, Township, Michigan currently stores approximately 85 tons of nuclear waste and produces 20 more tons of waste every year. This nuclear waste poses a health risk to the people living in the Detroit Metropolitan Area and to the surrounding environment. A traveling wave reactor converts high-level nuclear waste into electricity. Detroit Edison has already started the process for applying to building another Nuclear Reactor.
We request that alternative technologies like the Travelling Wave Reactor be investigate in order to deal with nuclear waste. The termination of the Yucca Mountain project has increased the urgency for finding a solution.
