Encourage Congress to devise legislation that provides public funding for campaigns and restricts private funding.

Created by P.P. on November 11, 2014

People who run for public offices need money in order to campaign. Private entities, such as firms, take advantage of this weakness in our democratic system for their own benefit. They provide funds to candidates and in return require the candidates, if they become incumbents, to repay their debts by supporting policies that will benefit these private entities. This is a perversion of our democratic process: if our representatives are too busy producing legislation to satisfy their wealthy patrons, they will have spent less time working on legislation that would primarily benefit us, the People. In order to put an end to this abuse, we must support legislation to provide public funding for campaigns and bar private entities from donating to parties, campaigns, 501c groups, and 527 groups.
