encourage congress to either trash or change H.R. 3261. If pass both houses, Obama administration should veto the bill.

Created by D.L. on December 14, 2011

The purpose of this petition is to protect the citizens of the United States, and more in particular the citizens who use internet and social media. H.R. 3261 mandates social media site owners to report all users who, at their discretion, feel as though copyright infringement is posted. This bill also requires Internet Service Providers to be 'active' in reviewing uploads someone makes onto the internet. This bill essentially supports censorship, and the government gives too much power to ISP's and social media. This is dangerous, seeing how social media and internet have helped developing countries work towards democracy. The U.S is viewed by many as an example, and countries against revolutions through social media may pass similar laws seeing the U.S has passed something similar.
