For far too long, we have idly viewed the existence of racial profiling as a necessary evil. We've even witnessed the passing of legislation in multiple states that, through the authority of vagueness, has encouraged this behavior as protocol by law enforcement. The recent high-profile court case in the wake of killing of Trayvon Martin in Florida has reignited a national dialogue on the legitimacy of racial profiling.
We ask that the administration address the concerns of the undersigned by encouraging the drafting, passing, and signing of a joint resolution of both houses of Congress explicitly defining racial profiling as a hate crime. It lacks the virtue of sound judgment and must be outlawed before contributing to more senseless acts of violence.
