In Canada it is illegal to broadcast a statement that you know to be false. During recent elections I have observed many advertisements, both on the local and national level, which contain erroneous, misleading, or distorted information. The viewers of this country deserve to be told the truth so that they can make reasonable, informed decisions and not be mislead into thinking that what they are seeing on TV is true because it is allowed there.
