Given that fireworks, the sight, sound and smell of explosives are a known trigger for veterans with Post Traumatic Stress,
Given that fireworks are a common part of patriotic celebrations,
Given that our intent in such celebrations on patriotic holidays is to celebrate the very veterans who may suffer as a result:
We encourage cities across the country to consider voluntarily designating themselves as firework free zones on such holidays, as havens for veterans who wish to travel to them and celebrate without being triggered. This leaves many cities free to continue long standing and much beloved firework celebrations.
