On Mar 13, 2013, Google announced that it was going to retire the Google Reader service on July 1, 2013.
This is a tragedy for the American people. Google Reader is a popular service that allows American citizens to follow and organize news and blog posts about politics, politicians and political parties (among other things). There are other options but they are either less efficient or more expensive or both.
According to Thomas Jefferson, an informed citizenry is necessary for a strong democracy. While Google is a private company, a simple statement from the Whitehouse in support of Google Reader would go a long way towards preserving this pillar of our democracy.
