We petition for the United States to encourage Israel toward a two-state solution of the Palestinian issue by the use of economic and political sanctions. The ideal resolution to the problem might be a single state with equal rights to all citizens, but for such a solution to be viable it would need popular support on both sides. Without such support, and with the ultimate goal of peace, the best available alternative is establishing a Palestinian state in the West Bank. In this spirit, we propose that the United States make future financial aid to Israel contingent on its recognition of a state of Palestine.
