We the people ask the federal government to Propose a new Administration policy:

Encourage NHTSA to implement regulations requiring installation of protective side guards on large trucks and trailers

Created by J.B. on July 03, 2016

Large trucks and trailers, because of their size, weight and slow maneuverability often put road users at risk and create dangerous obstacles. Vehicle side guards (also referred to as ““lateral protective”” and ““side underrun protection”” devices) are intended to provide protection to vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists, and in some instances passenger vehicles and motorcyclists, against the risk of entering under the sides of the vehicle and resulting in serious injuries or deaths.

This type of safety device is required in the EU and has proven itself to be effective.

We hereby petition that the National Highway Traffic Administration be encouraged to act on implementing this requirement.
