Encourage Critical Thinking and Honesty in Petitions
Words matter. Habitual petition generators (MoveOn, CREDO, etc) are slapping together petitions that contain subliminal messages that could cause more harm than good. Many seem to think that any petition is a good thing so they sign and pass these petitions on without carefully examining the wording or the accuracy of what those words imply.
If we demand honesty in petitions, from media, and, most importantly from those who forward/share dishonest messages, we have a better chance for intelligent debate in this country.
I hope educators will see this and work with students to help them recognize dishonest and subliminal messages.
