There are a lot of people in the eastern states who are truly clueless about the western states. This is especially annoying when the clueless individuals are politicians or newscasters. While it's unreasonable to expect most easterners to become experts on such "foreign" places, they should at least try to pronounce important western place names correctly.
Many westerners would mispronounce Chevy Chase, MD or Hauppauge, NY, so we understand when easterners struggle with Puyallup, WA or Tooele, UT. But people in this country should at least know how to say the names of the states and their capitals. Nevada, for example, is Nev-ad-uh, not Nev-ah-duh. And there's no Z in Boise.
The Whitehouse should encourage politicians and the media to have a fundamental education in U.S. geography.
