Encourage State Boards of Nursing to Support Evidence Based Practice.

State Boards of Nursing have many responsibilities one being ensuring minimal standards of practice is being followed by each licensee.
As Evidenced Based Nursing Practice replaces tradition Boards of Nursing may be called on to regulate optimal standards of licensee scope of practice.
There are cases where state boards of nursing have ruled against evidenced based practice in support of tradition.
Example from Virginia:
Nurse supervisor supported RN on duty inserting a urinary catheter for symptoms of urinary retention for 12 hours in a non-verbal individual with disabilities. Follow up obtained in local ER. Board has reprimanded the supervisor.
