Encourage the teaching of informal logic at the high school level.

Created by J.P. on May 25, 2013

Logic is the science of deduction. Learning it is essential to becoming a critical thinker, yet it's ignored until one reaches college age, and even then it's often an optional course.

Informal logic deals with the reasoning and fallacies found in everyday language.

We, as a people, too often accept fallacies made by public and private institutions (ex: politicians, greedy CEOs, advertisers). Teaching how to recognize a fallacious argument from a valid and sound one would go a long way in raising the intellectual level of our national discourse.

I propose the teaching of logic be encouraged in public high schools, and a grant be offered to them to allow the hiring of logic teachers or to help qualify current ones to also teach this subject.
