Medicare requires a 3 day inpatient stay in order for someone to go into a skilled nursing facility. This required is often time unmet. This over uses Medicare dollars in unnecessary admission to hosptials. Pt could be placed in skilled nursing facilites directly from the emergency rooms. This would be an excellent way to prevent miss use of Medicare dollars and unnecessary hosptial admissions.
