Please end affirmative action for individuals who identify as Hispanic or Latino/a.
While we recognize the strength of arguments in favor of providing affirmative action to African Americans, these arguments do not extend to Hispanics.
In fact, the reasons behind affirmative action for Hispanics are unclear to us. Please respond to the following:
1) Why do white persons from Latin America, Spain, or Portugal, receive preferences? Why do Italians who first went to Argentina get preferences and minority status, while Italians who first came to the US receive discrimination? Why do white Hispanics, possibly the descendants of slave owners, receive preferences?
2) Why do Asians who first immigrated to Latin America receive preferences, while non-Hispanic Asians are discriminated against?
