The federal rules requiring all Americans to have healthcare insurance under penalty of hundreds of dollars in fines per person are based upon completely idealistic and out-of-touch assumptions about the amount of expendable income available to middle class families. Many in this income bracket live check to check and do not have 8 to 10% of additional income to spend for healthcare premiums yet this factor is not considered in the list of exemptions. Little room is left after student loans, mortgages, car payments and expenses associated with caring for families and the choice between buying food or paying for health insurance should not be added to the list of burdens because it is, in fact, that dire according to community health advocates. AHA is not affordable; it's a poverty fine.
