--Corn-based ethanol production should not be subsidized by the taxpayers.
--The cost of corn is near an all time high, and most subsidies go to corporate agribusiness. It causes the price of food to increase as corn used for feed gets diverted to fuel production.
--It is very inefficient and uses up valuable farmland. Corn production uses vast quantities of natural-gas based nitrogen fertilizer and fossil fuel to create very little surplus energy considering the input.
--Sugar based ethanol production is much more efficient but cannot compete against subsidized corn production.
