Obesity is a large and growing problem in America. A large part of this problem is the fact that unhealthy foods are so much cheaper than healthy produce. By providing subsidies on corn, soybeans and wheat, we are artificially lowering the prices for these foods. These are the main components of many of the most unhealthy ingredients in food. By ending subsidies in these areas, the prices will be brought to market value and at a much closer value to the healthy produce. In turn, people may start to purchase the much healthier fruits and vegetable because of the decreased price gap. This will also lead to much lower health care costs due to a lowered obesity level, which is tied to many other health problems. The large agricultural conglomerates do not need these subsidies. END THEM.
