The CDC has already recommended daily Truvada PrEP treatment for all US residents at risk for exposure to HIV. Now, WHO has made a similar recommendation worldwide. Yet many US health insurance companies do not cover this lifesaving treatment. It appears that they find it more cost-effective to wait until people develop AIDS, then cover treatment, than to allow their insureds to take an effective medication that will prevent HIV infection to begin with. This is a shameful state of affairs, which the government must begin addressing immediately.
