Our nation continues to fritter away money on academic scholarships. The thinking is, if the government supplies athletes then the government doesn't have to pay for education, the supplied athletes can do that. The athletic scholarship recipients have shown beyond reasonable doubt in the court of public opinion that athletic scholarship recipients in the aggregate are not interested in scholastics. The rare flower that also achieves in academia does not justify nor is hampered by the dissolution of athletic scholarships but will in fact be more likely to take advantage of money that would potentially be free for academic minded youths. Athletic departments have too much artificial power in academia.
