The best way to balance the budget and reduce the burden on middle class families would be to cut all subsidies and/or tax breaks to corporations. This includes agricultural subsidies, as America is no longer a country of family farms but of food production corporations. We then need to invest in infrastructure projects. Airports, bridges, rail systems and roads all desperately need updating. Would some prices increase, particularly oil and food? Yes, they probably would. Yet, if people have jobs, which would result from the infrastructure investment, the slight increase in food and oil prices would have minimal impact on them. We could also consider a federal sales tax, exempting food and clothing like the PA tax. Finally, all income should be taxed at the same rate.
