End all talks of an Assault Weapons Ban, as this ban only effects the law abiding citizen, not criminals.

The tragedy in Connecticut could not have been prevented by an Assault Weapons Ban. There are already strict gun laws in place in Connecticut that proved this fact. An assault weapons ban would not have made the mass murderer gave up his plans that tragic day. The only people affected by bans and gun laws are law abiding citizens. Criminals ignore the law and bans, that's why there criminals.
Efforts should be made to educate gun owners on safe storage and prevention of theft, as well as stricter monitoring of mentally ill individuals. Don't punish law abiding sportsman and gun owners because of the actions of mentally ill individuals. Flash hiders, collapsible stocks, and pistol grips do nothing to make a firearm more dangerous.
